The clinical employment of serum protein electrophoresis on microporous cellulose actate support medium is described. The high precision, the freedom from error in routine use, and the speed and economy of the procedure recommend it as a replacement for the routine "salting-out" A/G ratio in most laboratories and as a five-fraction separation procedure which is a great improvement over paper electrophoresis and much easier than gel methods. Normal values, precision data, and information on time requirements are given, as are examples of potential value of the obtained information in acute conditions and in routine physical examinations.
